Statement of Intention
Aligned with AusTAG’s broader vision of fostering critical, creative, and inclusive
conversations about theory in archaeology, the conference committee is dedicated to
creating a space where participants from all backgrounds, identities, and lived experiences
feel respected, represented, and able to contribute fully. We affirm that diversity across
culture, gender, sexuality, disability, age, socioeconomic position, language, disciplinary
perspective, and worldview is a source of strength that enriches our collective work. We
remain attentive to how power operates within academic spaces and welcome ongoing
feedback on how we can improve.
We acknowledge that this gathering takes place on unceded Kaurna lands and is
strengthened by the participation and leadership of First Nations scholars and community
members.
Expectations for Respectful Participation
All participants share responsibility for creating a safe and respectful environment for all. We
ask that all attendees:
● Making no assumptions about the identities, experiences, or opinions of others.
● Speaking from your own experience without generalising for others.
● Listening with respect and without judgement.
● Doing your best to use inclusive and respectful language.
